Travel insurance for the United Kingdom (UK)

Get a quote

Steeped in history with vibrant natural landscapes to explore and a diverse culture at its core, the United Kingdom (UK) embodies everything that’s great about travel.

From the humdrum of London where you can immerse yourself in world-class museums and iconic landmarks to the coastline that hems Great Britain, there’s plenty to awe even the most seasoned traveller.

What’s Covered?

When you buy travel insurance with nib, no matter where in Great Britain you roam, we may be able to help if travel mishaps wreak havoc with your UK holiday.

Depending on the policy you choose some of the key benefits of our travel insurance policies include:

  • Flight cancellation or delay

If you find yourself stuck at the airport because your flight has been delayed for six hours or more — or worse, cancelled — nib travel insurance may be able to help cover the costs of rearranging your trip or with non-refundable pre-paid expenses.

  • Overseas medical cover

Overseas medical cover can be a lifesaver if you’re injured or become well while travelling overseas. If the worst happens, nib offers cover that can help ease the often-steep mountain of medical bills if you need to see a doctor, end up in hospital, or require medical evacuation and repatriation.

  • Luggage and personal effects

Navigating another country without your luggage isn’t fun for anyone. That’s why nib offers cover for luggage and personal effects, to reduce your worry-load if you become separated from your things.

  • Medical evacuation and repatriation

Whether you’re marvelling at Stonehenge or exploring the beauty of the Isle of Skye, sudden illness or injury could see you needing urgent medical evacuation or even repatriation.

Why you should consider travel insurance when you travel to the UK

If you want to ski or snowboard

The UK and skiing typically don’t go hand-in-hand. But the Pennines and the Lake District are havens for snow sports. Skiing and snowboarding come with their fair share of injuries, so if you do plan to hit the slopes while in Great Britain, nib offers snow sports cover, with benefits including ski run closure, ski lift passes, and hiring replacement snow equipment

Access to Emergency Assistance 24/7

nib travel insurance provides access to emergency assistance 24-hours a day, seven days a week. If you or someone on your policy need help finding the nearest medical facility, doctor, or even dental, we’re here to help.

If you want to explore the natural landscape

Pristine coastline, rolling green hills, and ancient relics embedded in the landscape. The UK offers innumerable wonders in its natural landscape and a slew of ways in which you can explore the great outdoors, from hiking, to paddling down rivers.

Traveller tip: We offer cover for overseas medical expenses on our Comprehensive and Essentials plans if you’re injured or become ill while travelling. Always make sure that you are safe and contact the 24-hour Emergency Assistance team.

What’s not covered

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything. While nib travel insurance offers cover for a variety of scenarios, there are things we simply don’t cover, such as:

  • Any medical and medical-related expenses incurred before you’ve left the country or after you’ve returned home to Australia
  • Changing your mind: If you change your mind and decide not to travel
  • Unattended Luggage or personal belongings: We don’t cover bags or belongings that are stolen when left unattended, or in any case where reasonable care has not been taken to look after them
  • Flight delays of less than six hours

When you take out a travel insurance policy you should choose the level of cover best suited to your travel plans in the UK, whether that means a week in Edinburgh or a month by the sea in Cornwall.

As always, our priority at nib is to help you travel confidently, and to know exactly where you stand with your coverage. You should read the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to understand your policy thoroughly.
