Am I covered if I need to cancel my trip because a relative is sick or injured?

It’s not nice to think about, but if a close relative back home suddenly falls ill, is injured or passes away, our policies may cover you if you need to cancel or rearrange your trip.

What’s covered?

If you are unable to start or finish your trip because of the death, or serious illness or serious injury of a close relative back home before or during your trip, our policies may cover you, up to policy limits, for:

  1. the non-refundable portion of your pre-paid travel arrangements and cancellation fees charged by your travel agent; or
  2. the cost to rearrange your trip, provided that the cost is not greater than the amount that would have been incurred had you cancelled the trip.
