On 17 September 2024, we released a new set of product updates in the Australian market.

At nib, we are driven to continually evolve our product to ensure we are focused on the future. Our goal is to make travel insurance easier for our partners and deliver a best-in-class solution for travellers.

We've taken the time to talk to our partners, understand priorities, and collaborate on how we can implement positive changes.

We've listened, and we've taken action. You'll see a range of enhancements across our international product suite.

This new combined Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Financial Services Guide (FSG) is available via our website and partner portal from 17 September.

Cancellation and Additional Expenses

  • We've broadened our cover for cancellation or holiday deferment costs and emergency travel arrangements and accommodation expenses:
    • Relating to natural disasters and severe weather
    • To attend to the childbirth of a close relative
  • We've also added Australian Defence Force to the list of workers covered when pre-arranged leave is cancelled.

Stopovers

  • When it comes to listing the destinations, travellers now only need to include the destination of a stopover country when it is more than 72 hours (previously 24 hours).

Activities

  • We have broadened and clarified cover for specific activities through changes to our General Exclusion section to outline cover for:
    • Hiking under 6,000m altitude
    • Riding an e-scooter or an e-bike with a helmet (within max speed capacity)
    • Guided tours on quad bikes and all-terrain vehicles (ATV)
  • Travellers do not need to add the Snow Sports option to get cover for ice-skating, or for guided tours when dogsledding and glacier walking.

Cruising & Travel Delays

  • We've improved the way we talk about cruising and travel delays to make it more clear for travellers:
    • Clarity around cover for international river cruises and ocean cruises within Australian waters or international waters, including clarity on the definition for international waters.
    • Clarity around cover for delays caused by cancellation or rescheduling.

Close Relatives

  • We have expanded the definition for close relatives to now include uncles, aunts, and those under your legal guardianship.
